There's No Such Thing as Free LunchApproximately we have P6 trillion debt on a belt. That is why 85% of our P758 billion profit will just be for our payment. Instead of that money being used on things beneficial to our country, we Filipinos are not benefiting from it because our government has to pay for those debts. Though we don’t really know where it came from, who used it and where it was used. That is why many of us are now experiencing poverty because of the different deficiencies we have on aspects like health, education and labor, peace and political stability.

To cope with this, Filipinos tend to be more resourceful when it comes to making money, putting up different prices on different things that are used to be achieved for free.

Before houses with pumps allow others to use their pumps for free. Now you have to pay them for you to be able to use these pumps for your water supply. Before, owners of fruit-bearing trees usually give their extra harvest for free but now they are already selling them. Do you know that even those who cry for the dead during wakes are also being paid. Remember the movie “Crying Ladies?” How about those who pray and kneel for hours inside quiapo church for the salvation of others? They are still being paid aren’t they? When you enter a fast-food, like Jollibee or Mcdo, the crews are so nice to you. They greet you with a very warm smile, offer you a seat and make sure that everything is alright. Those people behavior is a commodified one as well, they are part of what you pay. If you’re in a state of emergency, some hospital don’t entertain patients that do not have money to pay even they are dying already. Also if you are in another state of emergency, aka, “the call of nature” there are establishments or restrooms where you need to pay 2 pesos, if you would like to pee and 5 pesos if you’re gonna poo. An additional 1 pesos for the napkin. Nowadays, for every service rendered, there will always be a price to pay.

You see, everything here that exist and being done have already their tag prices. You will seldom find this things being given for free. Come to think of it, who would offer them for free at this times when every single peso is worth a lifetime and you have to exert more effort just to come up with a little amount to satisfy your stomach for one meal. Life is so hard today, I admit. That is why you cannot blame the Filipinos if they will do such things because it’s their only way to survive.

Though the best things in life are free, not all things in life are free.
