Members of the Board of Nursing (BON) are facing possible criminal charges after the National Bureau of Investigation confirmed a leakage in the 2006 Nursing Licensure Exams, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Wednesday.

Ermita said NBI Director Nestor Mantaring told him that a leakage occured in the nursing board exam. Mantaring declined to reveal where the leakage came from and who distributed it to students and review centers.

Ermita said the NBI will submit its complete report on the leakage to the Professional Regulation Commission, Department of Justice and Malacaņan on Thursday.

Ermita said he expects PRC chairwoman Leonor Rosero to follow President Arroyo's instruction that only those found guilty of benefiting from the leakage should retake Tests 3 and 5 of the board exam.

He said Mrs. Arroyo has no plans to replace Rosero.

Cavite Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla on Wednesday challenged BON and PRC officials to resign to give way to a fair probe on the alleged leakage.

Remulla issued the challenge during the congressional inquiry of the joint committees on justice, good government and civil service and professional regulation.

He said PRC and the nursing board could start clean with credible officials if the present members resign.

A PRC fact-finding committee report earlier said a Philippine Nurses Association official paid P7 million to BON members for the leakage.

I wonder how the government is going to handle this.

On one hand, it would be unwise to pass all the examinees as there may be rotten eggs in there.

On the other hand, it would be unfair for those who tried their hardest. 

And we haven't even mention the financial aspect of things.

well, i hope it won't take that long for them to do the PROBE... wag sana magaya sa Aquino assassination... tsk tsk tsk...

they should just ban these cheaters from nursing!

easier said than done... esp with the "Human Rights Advocates (???)" in the Philippines...

I guess this is too harsh... just let them spend another year in college...  :)

The cheaters must repeat a new test all over again for them to prove that they are really worth passing the exam.

that's well and good but how do they distinguish the cheaters from the non-cheaters?

Let all of them repeat the exam. Otherwise, there's gonna be another "probe" to find out the cheaters!

amen :)  the biggest issue here is that to take the licensure exams requires some money. even if the government lets them take it for free, there's always the minute misc stuff to deal with (i.e. board and lodging, re-review expenses) that adds up.

that's why the problem hasn't been resolved yet...

So... maybe just let them pass. And just worry about fixing it for the next batch.

so you mean we'll just forget about the leakge issue and just be more careful for the next batch???

this is really a tough issue and would require a lot of thought on how to be handled.  however, this isn't the main issue.  i guess the focus had been redirected here.  the main culprits are the people on top who handles the exams, the reviewer, and the person who leaked the answer sheet.

right now, it's a losing battle.

already a lost battle i would say... tsk tsk tsk... people think of a solution... a solution which in turn creates another problem...
