Philippines to raffle 25 island names to Japanese tourists

Monday, August 22, 2005 at 11:35 JST
MANILA — In a bid to woo more Japanese tourists, the Philippine government will raffle off the naming of 25 islands to Japanese tourists. Philippine Tourism Secretary Joseph Durano said the winners "will have the prestige of having these islands named after them for a period of one year."

The marketing promo will be launched in October. The 25 islands to be raffled off are part of the 124 islets that dot the Lingayen Gulf in Alaminos, about 254 kilometers north of Manila. "We expect to generate tremendous excitement and awareness during the campaign," said Durano, who went on an eight-day road show to Japan in June to sell the Philippines to Japanese tourists and investors.

ako na din unang sasagot sa post.

Personally, I think it's quite silly.

I think it would be silly for the part of the japanese. Imagine, his name will only remain for a period of one year. I think it's ridiculous.
