Lechon in Austin

I finally had a chance to track down a Filipino restaurant in Austin. The place is called Mang Dedoy's and it's basically a small Filipino store with a small turo-turo at the back. The place is nice and clean and the food selection is okay. I guess its somewhere you want to visit when you want to take a break from home cooking. It's not a buffet place so if you're looking for someplace to gorge yourself, this is not it.
Lechon is available every Saturday at 12:30 pm. I guess paksiw is on the menu on Sundays and Mondays. That is if there are still some leftovers. But the Menudo was just delicious as well as the chiken adobo. Pinoy na pinoy.
If you guys have the chance, visit the place.

What did you do in Austin? Did you drive all the way there just to get lechon?

Get some monthly supplies and of course, indulge in lechon. We don't have those readily available from where we are at.

There is a large Filipino community in Austin. Mang Dedoy's is not the only Filipino store in town. There is also:
Philippine Oriental Food & Bakery
707 E Braker Ln
Austin, TX 78753
Federico & Rebecca (Vickie) Evangelista
cell: 512-289-1669
business: 512-833-9420
They have dry goods, frozen food, home accessories and a small buffet style restaurant. No, it's not 'all you can eat', but they're generous with their portions. According to their business card they have lechon, puti, ube, kuchinta, soman, lumpia, and other items with names I can't pronounce.
)
I've been to Vickie's place many times and love their cooking. Federico and Vickie are both great cooks. I've never been to Mang Dedoy's store but my wife has and I've heard nothing bad about it. I'm not trying to take away any of his business, just letting you know what else is available in Austin. He's got a good location for the Filipinos in the NW part of Austin. Federico and Vickie have a good location for NE, Central and South Austin as they're only about 1/2 block from I-35, the interstate highway that runs thru the center of the town.
Also, I can't say enough good things about their youngest kid, Ding. He's about 10 years old, very well mannered and astonishing bright.
