July and August is the month of fireworks season in Japan. Each municipality/city prepares an hour's worth of fireworks display for its citizens to watch. During this time, kids, women, and men wear their summer kimono and grabs a good spot in the park to wait and watch for the fireworks display. This is the best time for barkadas, families, colleagues to hang out, drink beer while eating pulutan in the park.Fireworks displays in Japan include unique designs like Mickey Mouse, Hello Kitty, Hearts, Smiley Face, Surprised Face, and the word "2005". Sounds unbelievable right? But it's true, it's a totally different experience. Compare to Philippines, where we fire fireworks every new year's eve, I think the fireworks display in Japan is way more efficient. Only trained hands are allowed to light fireworks, the government pays for the fireworks, and everyone gets to watch it free. |
