![]() Zoobic Safari- A Tiger Encounter Zoobic Safari, one of the newest and most popular attractions at Subic Bay. It is located in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone which is the former US Naval Base. The definite address is Group 1, Ilanin Forest, Subic Freeport Zone. Zoobic Safari, a combined venture between SBMA and the Yupangco Group, gives visitors a chance to see various animals up close and, in certain instances, to pet them. Many of the animals that can be seen there are indigenous to the Philippines, such as civet cats, various breeds of monkeys, white-breasted eagles and brahminy kites. Other animals such as tigers, ostriches, sheep, a moon bear and cassowary were obtained from some foreign countries. In the case of the tigers and ostriches, Zoobic Safari has been quite successful in breeding them locally, according to Safari Manager Delia de Jesus.A visit to Zoobic Safari would not be complete without taking the safari ride, the only way you can get up close and personal with a fully grown tiger. Visitors board a jeepney, not the usual jeepney of course, it has been converted. It is protected with iron mesh, to see the tigers lounging in pools and basking in the sun. The seats have been rearranged as well, instead of running length ways they now run across the jeepney for ease of viewing. After boarding the jeep and take off down the road, you’ll first see a large fenced area. Here, the jeep will pass through the first gate. Once the jeep was already inside, the man on the gate will close it promptly. There, you’ll realize that you are now in a kind of like a lock, with a gate behind and a gate in front, two gates just in a case a tiger gets through one gate he cannot get through the second. Driving around the enclosure, you’ll see some tigers were lying under some trees escaping the heat of the day .Dangling a live chicken through the jeepney's window would make the tigers chase the jeep and will give the passengers so much thrill. As the massive tiger landed on the roof of the caged jeepney, screams startled, feathers went everywhere and shirts were sprayed with blood as the tiger attacked and literally ripped the chicken apart. Tiger Close Encounter Here you can jump into a small train, which will Wisk you around to the pens, where the tigers are kept in. The guide will walk you all the way through the pens giving you a family tree history of each of the tigers and explicate the nicknames each one has. Zoobic Savannah The Savannah is supposed to be a replica of an African game park without the African animals, except for some scruffy ostriches. Inside you will find a lot of guinea fowl, ostriches, wild boars and potbellies Zoobic Future Plans It would appear that they have some big plans for the Zoobic Safari at Subic Bay. Coming soon is Elephant World, Rodent World (which is nearly complete), Alligator Land, Animal Museum, Tree of Life and Safari Village. |
