McAllen Texas, A Good Place to Start and Prepare for the Future. To Pinoy’s, little is known about the semi-tropical paradise at the Southern most tip of Texas otherwise known as the Rio Grande Valley. It is a compact contiguity of the towns and cities of McAllen, Edinburg, Harlingen, Weslaco, Mission, Brownsville, Los Fresnos, Hidalgo City, San Juan, Pharr, Donna and Alamo. Now there is increasing visibility of Rio Grande Valley (RGV) to the Pinoy naked-eye due to the influx of Filipino nurses, Teachers, Doctors and other professionals in recent years. They found it to be a good place to start and prepare for the future. The fat sign-on-bonuses that attracted nurses during the late 90’s enable them to get established in a short period of time. They have their own houses and cars fully paid-up. They are now buying other properties like apartments for rent and farms. Many Pinoys have chosen to anchor their roots in the valley. Some Filipino nurses who left the area after they received their bonuses want to return to the valley after they have seen remarkable developments and improvements not prevailing 5 years ago. They always say that the way of life here is more placid, happy, affordable and possibly longer life. Fish are abundant and one can go fishing in the Gulf and get free supply of fish like Halibut, Flounder, Sheep head, Red Fish, Tanggi-gi, Pompano and others. Many Pinoys In the valley have backyard gardens and orchard where to get free supply of fresh fruits and vegetables like Oranges,Ampalaya, Malungagay, Pechay, Eggplant and many more which they also share with their kababayans. Pinoys are happiest in the valley during parties where Lechon,Kilawen Kambing and others Pilipino delicacies are often served.
