It's because in chemistry, iodine (Betadine) is used in determining the concentration of Vitamin C. There is a chemical reaction between the ascorbic acid (Vit C) and iodine which results to the clearing of the iodine-water solution (like in the demo you saw). Both the Vit C and the Iodine already changed into a different chemical component.

The demo only showed the potency of the ascorbic acid contained in Nutrilite Acerola C and not its ability to dissolve iodine.

Pure iodine is toxic and corrosive but with Betadine which is povidone-iodine, it is a complex of Iodine so it is not as potent as iodine. There is even a Betadine Gargle, right? But prolonged, uncontrolled, misuse and overuse may cause your body to absorb little amounts of iodine. Yayks!

Hope this helps!
